The Pub

Submit

Submissions for our spring issue are due February 8th

Submission Guidelines

The Pub is Wheaton College’s independent undergraduate journal that seeks to publish thought-provoking writing that examines the world from an intelligent, Christian perspective.  We seek to encourage constructive dialogue, be a conduit for positive change, and exhibit the thought of some of Wheaton’s brightest students.  We accept and publish essays, reviews, poems, graphic art (with commentary), and creative non-fiction.

Writing should be focused, clear, and engaging.  The articles should be thoughtfully and skillfully crafted, but not be so technical as to lose relevance for the general campus community. Submissions need not be freshly written for The Pub, but can be previously completed work, either for a school assignment or personal interest.

Since The Pub seeks to be cross-disciplinary, in reflection of the liberal arts tradition, encouraged topics include those in the literary, philosophical, cultural, theological, political, sociological, ethical, aesthetic, and scientific disciplines.

Articles can include a wide range of ideas and need not be “explicitly” Christian in theme and diction, but should flow out of a Christian perspective.  Most importantly, the topic should be relevant to and reflective of the unique demographics and concerns of the Wheaton College student body.

Different genres of reviews include but are not limited to: book and literary, music, performance, media, event or exhibit, or other topics subject to approval.

Though The Pub is not a creative-writing or art review, it will accept shorter poetry and creative non-fiction submissions as well as graphic designs to be jointly with a statement by the author.
Suggested word count is as follows:

Essays 800-1400 words
Feature-length essays, 3000-5000 words
Reviews, 800-1200 words
Creative Non-Fiction pieces, 800-1200 words
